About NHRC
The National Human Rights Commission of India (NHRC), established on October 12, 1993, under the Protection of Human Rights Ordinance of September 28, 1993, aims to promote human rights literacy and awareness. The NHRC conducts various programs, including Summer and Winter Internship Programmes, to engage university students in human rights advocacy.
Summer Internship Programme (SIP) 2024 Details
NHRC's Summer Internship Programme (SIP) 2024 will run from June 10, 2024, to July 5, 2024. The program invites applications from eligible students across India to participate in this comprehensive training.
Eligibility Criteria
Students must meet one of the following criteria to apply:
- Completed 1st year and pursuing 2nd or 3rd year LLB (3-year course)
- Completed 3 years or Semester VI of a 5-year course (BA LLB, etc.) and pursuing 4th or 5th year
- Pursuing a PG Diploma in Human Rights, MA in Human Rights, or PG in Political Science, Sociology, Social Work, Criminology, Public Administration, Rural Development, History, Economics, Commerce, Anthropology, Mass Communication, International Relations, or any Social Sciences discipline, with preference given to final year students.
Internship Structure
The SIP 2024 includes:
- Approximately 70-75 sessions on human rights issues
- Interaction with NHRC Chairperson and Members
- Project work on human rights topics
- State presentations on local human rights scenarios
- Book reviews from the NHRC library
- Films and discussions on human rights issues like child labour, trafficking, health, and education
- Field visits to police stations, jails, NGOs, and commissions (e.g., National Commission for Women, Minorities, SC/ST)
Stipend and Travel Allowance
- Interns will receive a stipend of Rs. 12,000.
- Selected interns from outside Delhi will be reimbursed for ordinary second-class train fare to and from New Delhi.
Awards and Certificates
- Certificates of participation will be awarded based on attendance, punctuality, discipline, and participation.
- Prize money of Rs. 15,000, Rs. 10,000, and Rs. 5,000 will be awarded to the top three group research projects.
- The top five book reviews and top three declamation contest winners will receive books worth up to Rs. 1,000.
Application Process
Interested students must submit the following by May 26, 2024:
- Attested scanned copies of mark sheets from 10th standard onwards, including all semesters of the current course
- A statement of purpose (SOP)
- A recommendation letter from the HOD/Dean/Principal (dated after the advertisement release date)
Incomplete applications or those sent via email/post will be rejected.
